This one was such a fun find! Walking through Vendor’s Village one day, we stepped into a booth and stared at this painting until it sunk in… that’s our home! I immediately took a picture and sent it to our new friend Dot Lewis, a local historian who knows a great deal about, well… everything – including the Markle House and family. She went to work gathering information for us!

The painting was a gift to Grace Markle upon her retirement from the Reuben Donnelley Corporation.
Grace Markle joined the Markle family when she married James Franklin Markle. We have been unable to trace him back to Frederick E. Markle, who originally built/owned the home, nor have we been able to determine if she ever lived in the house.

Here’s a picture of the painting hanging in the main hall of the very house it depicts. ❤️

If anyone does have any additional forms of documentation on this painting, the artist, or Grace Markle, we’d love to see it! Post a comment below or visit our contact page!
