If you didn’t make it to “Experience Otter Creek” sponsored by Ouabache Land Conservancy, you really missed out. I learned so much! I had conversations with some highly knowledgeable people about the fish and insect species that can be found in Otter Creek, turkey calls, river shells, and bats. I had extensive conversations with the ladies at the invasive plant species booth about how to deal with garlic mustard and the honeysuckle that is rampant through our woods, which was furthered when I stopped by the display on soil conservation. I also learned to keep a watch out for the spotted lanternfly, which would threaten the beautiful mature trees that surround The Markle House.

I left with lots of reference material, contacts for programs and more information, and several different tree saplings to plant on our property so the area will always have beautiful trees native to Indiana. They even had live music, hot dogs, popcorn, and a bounce house for kids!
I hope they will continue this great event and highly recommend that you follow Ouabache Land Conservancy on Facebook and keep your eyes open for announcements!
